An exhibition of “Hinano turushikazari (Hanging ornaments for young girls)”, a tradition carried on since the Edo era in Inatori Hot Spring.

In Inatori Hot Spring, Izu, there is a traditional of “Hinano turushikazari (Hanging ornaments for young girls)” that has been carried on since the Edo era. In the Girls Festival, the hanging ornaments will be hanged on both side of the tiered platform. It is a rare traditional event around the country. Such a delicate handicraft of hanging ornaments for girls is rare, and the event in Inatori is one of the three major events of the kind, other than the ones at Yanagawa area in Kyushu and Sakata area in Yamagata.
It is said that in Edo era, most of the families cannot afford to buy the formal dolls to celebrate the Girls Festival for their daughters, they hand-make the hanging ornaments instead to send bless to their beloved daughters. This is said to be the origin of this tradition.
The colorful ornaments impress the viewers greatly. Although the event itself lasts from late January to the end of March, in the teahouse and the nearby Sakura slope you can see them all year around.
